School Council Members

EFDM held our first meeting with School Council Members since the election.  We also had a guest speaker attend, Jerome Train who is our pedagogical advisor from MLF.  Thank you to all members for a productive meeting.

Thank you to our Parent Representatives: Dominique, Chelsea, Sonya, and Cedric.

Merci Jerome Train for your visit.

Le livre des peurs!

The GS/CP read and worked on the book Qui a peur de quoi? by Coralie Saudo.

It is the story of a little boy who seems to be afraid of nothing. His friends are all scared of different things, and they are starting to be a little annoyed by the boy who is afraid of nothing... until they realize that the only thing he is afraid of, is loosing his friends!

The children really enjoyed this story, and they created their own "book of fears". Each child created a character and described either what he/she was afraid of, or what he/she was not afraid of. The original book is written with rhymes, so they had to use rhymes for their characters too.

You can watch below as they tell their story:

They also went into the CE1/CE2 classroom to tell their story.

Bravo!

Thanksgiving Basket Drive for Freeport Community Center

Thank you to all of our parents and families that helped make our Thanksgiving basket drive a HUGE success.  Our community helped put together 20 baskets for families in need.  These baskets contained goodies to cook an entire Thanksgiving meal, including a turkey.  We are so grateful and proud to be a part of such a generous community.  We proudly reached our goal of 20 baskets!

Our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders proudly delivered the 20 baskets to the Freeport Community Center.  A special thank you to Meredith Harrell and Julie Fryer, who gave an extra hand making sure this drive was a success!
 Thank you Julie and Meredith!

Lego Robotics After School Club

Every Wednesday, lego robotics students have fun creating, assembling, and letting their imaginations run wild!  Lego Robotics fosters teamwork, as students often work together in pairs to problem solve and brainstorm.  Lego Robotics is also a fun way to introduce programming by having to control a physical robot and seeing what works and doesn't work.  Students than learn what robots can and can’t do. They also learn the need for precise instructions.
This is a fun filled afternoon!  Please don't hesitate to contact Julie if you would like to join in the fun!

Thanksgiving Basket Drive for Freeport Community Services

Each year, EFDM collects ingredients for Thanksgiving baskets that will be donated to the Freeport Community Center. This tradition is so very appreciated by the Community Center as the need is great; they depend on our baskets each year. We put together an entire Thanksgiving meal for a family in each basket and we will make up as many baskets as we are able. Let's see if we can break our record this year! Our goal is 20 baskets will help 20 families in need in our community.

If you would like to contribute, here is a list of items that the Community Center has requested:

Canned vegetables (carrots, green beans, peas, corn, etc.)
Potato flakes
Onions
Stuffing mix
Gravy
Cranberry sauce
Pie crust
Pie filling
Large roasting pans
$10 Shaw's gift cards (for turkeys).

Our deadline for donated items is Friday November 17.  Baskets will be put together on Monday November 20.  If you are able to lend a helping hand with the basket making, please let us know!

Thanksgiving Luncheon

Our Thanksgiving Luncheon was a huge success! Not only was the meal delicious but the proceeds from every Pilgrim Pie purchased by the school for this meal is going directly to families in need in our community.  Sarah Lundin, Freeport Community Services Coordinator, spoke at our luncheon and left with over $350 in cash donations that will go directly to the Heating Assistance Program. We are very proud of our EFDM community.  Thank you!

A special thank you to our parent volunteers that lent a helping hand at the luncheon.  These events would not be successful with your help.  Merci!
