Des recettes de sorciers et de sorcières

Students in CE1 became witches and wizards and had a blast creating their own magical recipes.  Concoctions for spicy candies, spaghetti soup, rat cake, dragon egg salad, and other recipes were all mixed in class this week!

Winter Performance

Congratulations to our entire school community for their Winter Performance last Monday.  This celebration of music, dance, and classroom performances was impressive and also a testament to our mission of students being immersed in French.  To see our students perform in front of a large audience but also 'en française' is extraordinary. Bravo!

We would like to thank our talented and creative faculty for their efforts.  We are very proud of our teaching team and their dedication.  Also, a heartfelt thank you to parents for supporting our school's mission and giving the gift of a second language to your child.

Please check our Facebook and Instagram page for more photos from our special day.

Bouncing Eggs

The 2nd Grade/CE1 English Language Arts class have been having a lot of fun.  Recently they began a 'How-To' unit, where they will publish their own 'How-To' book.

In order to prepare for the writing project, students have been reading many 'How-to' books.  We read the book 'How to Bounce an Egg' and followed the steps.  After three days time, we had bouncing eggs in English class!  Students recorded their observations each day and had a lot of fun bouncing the egg!

Stay tuned... the 'How-to' books will be coming soon.

Nutrition Presentation

Liz Strawbridge, proud mom of Cody in Grade 2, spoke to the 2nd and 3rd grade classes about nutrition and sugar.  In the presentation, Liz taught students about healthy sugar intake, as well as how to read nutrition labels.  Students examined a variety of snacks and beverages and put them in sequential order from healthy to not healthy by looking at the nutrition labels.  Liz also discussed the use of chemicals and preservatives in our food.  Merci Liz for a wonderful presentation!

Let it snow!

If it snows soon, we need to thank Elodie, Victorien, and all the GS/CP students!  This week they excitedly made 'bonhomme de neige' cookies in celebration of winter and our December birthdays.

Jackson Pollock Inspired Art

The CE1/CE2 art class certainly had an exciting art class!  Eggs were filled with paint and then dropped or thrown onto a canvas to create 'drip' inspired artwork, inspired by Jackson Pollock. Similar to Pollock's style, we practiced painting without touching the canvas. This was surely an art class we won't forget!

Fifth and sixth graders also learned cubes and squares up to 10. Upon completion of all the multiplication and division facts, they were rewarded with crepes. Thank you Julie and Dasha for making 40 delicious crepes in 10 minutes!

November Birthday Celebration

This week, to celebrate November birthdays, students made gingerbread together! We worked on naming the ingredients we used, we followed the recipe steps in sequential order, colored a gingerbread man, and of course, ended the day with a delicious gingerbread snack! Yum!

School Council Members

EFDM held our first meeting with School Council Members since the election.  We also had a guest speaker attend, Jerome Train who is our pedagogical advisor from MLF.  Thank you to all members for a productive meeting.

Thank you to our Parent Representatives: Dominique, Chelsea, Sonya, and Cedric.

Merci Jerome Train for your visit.

Le livre des peurs!

The GS/CP read and worked on the book Qui a peur de quoi? by Coralie Saudo.

It is the story of a little boy who seems to be afraid of nothing. His friends are all scared of different things, and they are starting to be a little annoyed by the boy who is afraid of nothing... until they realize that the only thing he is afraid of, is loosing his friends!

The children really enjoyed this story, and they created their own "book of fears". Each child created a character and described either what he/she was afraid of, or what he/she was not afraid of. The original book is written with rhymes, so they had to use rhymes for their characters too.

You can watch below as they tell their story:

They also went into the CE1/CE2 classroom to tell their story.

Bravo!

Thanksgiving Basket Drive for Freeport Community Center

Thank you to all of our parents and families that helped make our Thanksgiving basket drive a HUGE success.  Our community helped put together 20 baskets for families in need.  These baskets contained goodies to cook an entire Thanksgiving meal, including a turkey.  We are so grateful and proud to be a part of such a generous community.  We proudly reached our goal of 20 baskets!

Our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders proudly delivered the 20 baskets to the Freeport Community Center.  A special thank you to Meredith Harrell and Julie Fryer, who gave an extra hand making sure this drive was a success!
 Thank you Julie and Meredith!
