Volunteer trip to Haiti

Elodie LeNezet-Soule is going to Haiti this coming March during school vacation, from March 2nd to March 9th.  She will be volunteering in the St Barthelemy School in Terrier Rouge, a rural community in the northeast part of the island.  This trip will expose our students to the harsh reality of so many children around the world while offering a unique opportunity to change their existence as students through the Bogo Light project.

This video presents the community around the school.

Elodie will be going with a group of volunteers from Houston led by Soizic Bonnet from Awty International School, a school partner from Mission Laique Française.  Teacher volunteers we will be offering training and professional development to the Haitian staff of the school in grammar, spelling and teaching strategies.

Here are a few ways you can help:

Bogo Light:  One of the projects they are developing is being able to supply students and members of the community with solar lamps, since all activities end around 5pm since there is no electricity. If in possession of such a lamp, children can do their homework, seamstresses can do their work. The Bogo Light company has designed a great solar lamp. It’s also a company that gives back , thanks to the program buy 1, give 1. You can go on the website, buy 2 lamps : one will be sent to you (you can then bring it at school and Elodie will take it to Haiti to donate it) and the other one will be donated to an organization to help people most in need.  If you want to purchase a Bogo Light:, we were advised to try to get them in pink, purple, orange or yellow.  Lamps are less likely to be stolen in these bright colors.

CASH DONATIONS are greatly appreciated to help Elodie LeNezet-Soule and l'Ecole Française du Maine finance this expensive volunteer trip: Make your tax-deductible donation to L'Ecole Française du Maine, merci beaucoup!

The budget:
Flights: $1123.70
Food/lodging in Haiti : $400
Hotel night in Fort Lauderdale : $300
Vaccinations: $400 (Malaria, hepatitis A and B, cholera, typhoid)

Thank you so much for your help and involvement in this wonderful mission.  There is important information on the St Barthelemy school  website on how to donate and help them:  for example, you can sponsor a child- for so little you can fund a child's education and meals for a whole year! Thank you for you help!
